About the Fire & Safety Committee
Genesee Fire & Safety Committee provides programs and strategies to help educate and protect the lives and property of all Genesee residents from the adverse effects of wildfire as well as exposure to other potentially dangerous situations created by man or nature.
Some key ways we work to reduce risk to residents and homes:
- Encourage residents to register all relevant devices with Lookout Alert in order to get the most up-to-date emergency information, including evacuation notifications.
- Provide information and tools to facilitate advance planning for possible emergency situations.
- Encourage and facilitate fire mitigation efforts, including defensible space plans and home hardening, so residents and firefighters are safer and homes stand a better chance of withstanding wildfire.
- Help the Genesee Board of Directors and community manager improve community safety so residents may continue to enjoy living in a safe environment.
- Look for us at community events such as July 4 and National Night Out – a fun, family event we hold in early August featuring a Jefferson County Sheriff’s unit.
Drop in to one of our meetings normally held the third Monday of the month at 1:00 pm. We always welcome new committee members so consider joining. You can find the 2022-2023 schedule dates on the community calendar and the Zoom link to attend virtually here.

Overarching Goals
- Provide practical information to Genesee residents on how to prepare for, and respond to, most disasters or hazardous conditions that could occur in our homes, Open Space, infrastructure, or the community at large, including but not limited to wildfires, home fires, medical emergencies, wildlife and extreme temperatures.
- Develop resident engagement initiatives through outreach and education that encourage proactive steps such as fire mitigation and certified defensible space plans on Genesee residents’ properties.
- Genesee residents live in a low-crime community that is regularly patrolled. To help keep the community safe, the GFSC strives to address residents’ concerns and keep the community informed about road and pedestrian safety, traffic violations, crime prevention, emergency response services, evacuation procedures and other important issues.
