Non-Emergency Assistance
This section is intended to provide a location for information that isn’t covered in other sections of Fire & Safety. It can include information about assistance when life and property isn’t at risk and could include what neighbors have offered to do. Some of the items might be what firefighters have offered to do in other neighborhoods but given that GFR is almost exclusively a volunteer department, some assistance might be very difficult to schedule.
Some examples of Non-Emergency Assistance might be:
- Getting helped from a car or up a flight of stairs after a hospital stay.
- Installing a smoke detector or replacing batteries in an existing detector.
- Installing a KnoxBox at your home.
- Learning how to open a garage door when the power is out.
- Learning what utilities to turn off in the event of an evacuation order.
- Help with mitigation or yard cleanup.
- Help with snow removal after a heavy snowfall.
More than any other section of Fire & Safety section of the Foundation’s website, this section needs community input and involvement. If you have suggestions about the topics to cover here and links to information, please contact the Genesee Fire & Safety Committee at GFSC@geneseefoundation.org.
