Hikes at 9:30 am – HawkQuest at 11am
Mark August 20 on your calendars for the Genesee Outdoors celebration at Vista Clubhouse. This will be a fun event for all ages!
The hikes will begin at 9:30 am, and we will meet on the sidewalk in front of the Vista Clubhouse. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can organize into groups and begin the hikes at 9:30 am. The hikes will last about an hour, and you will be back in time for the HawkQuest presentation. Following are the scheduled hikes:
- The Fairy Trail: The fairies are back and there will be a group-led hike to see the houses experience the magic of the fairy trail.
- History Hike: Bob Dunlap will lead this hike and share his knowledge of Genesee.
- Genesee Trails: A guide from the Trails Committee will lead a hike on one or more of the Genesee trails.
Back by popular demand and starting at 11am will be a presentation by the raptor rescue organization, HawkQuest. The program this year is all about owls. This innovative program will take you on a trip around the world, featuring owls from six continents. The one-hour program focuses on the tools used by owls worldwide and their importance to global ecosystems by controlling the pest animals that threaten our food supply. This presentation will be held on the basketball court next to the playground which is behind the Vista Clubhouse. Chairs will be set up, but you are also welcomed to bring your own lawn chairs. This promises to be an entertaining and informative event for all.
Immediately following the HawkQuest presentation will be refreshments including snacks and frozen treats. Water and drink stations will be available, and please bring your own water bottles to refill to help eliminate plastic bottles. Genesee nature guides and trail guides will be available for purchase, and there will be booths with information from the Open Space Committee, Fire and Safety, Trails, bluebird box monitoring, and Genesee Fire Rescue Wildland Specialist, Dorie Dalton. Browse through the materials available, talk to committee members and learn a little more about living in our community.
You won’t want to miss this great event!
